Update - PLAN’s 23 Things program is completed but the blog will remain up. You can still try out the 23 Things.
This blog has been set-up as part of PLAN’s Navigating New Technologies project to encourage members to experiment and learn about the new and emerging technologies that are reshaping the context of information on the Internet today.
This program is borrowed from the Learning 2.0 program that was designed by Helene Blowers, PLCMC Technology Director, and is loosely based upon Stephen Abram’s article, 43 Things I (or You) might want to do this year (Information Outlook - Feb 2006) and the website 43Things.
The design of this online program was completely built on Web 2.0 technologies that are freely available on the Internet. These sites include: Blogger, Flickr, Odeo, YouTube, PBWiki & Bloglines.
Member Prizes & Incentives:
Navigating New Technologies - The first 75 PLAN Library Member Staff who completes all 23 things will receive a USB flash drive. All PLAN Library Member Staff that complete the program by July 27, 2007 will be entered into a drawing for the following prizes: Nintendo Wii, Creative 2G MP3 Player, and a Panasonic Digital Camera.
Frequently Asked Questions:
1. How does this online learning program work?
This is a self-discovery program which encourages PLAN Members to take control of their own learning and to utilize their lifelong learning skills through exploration and play. There will be no formal workshops offered to support this program. Instead, members are encouraged to work together and share with each other their discoveries, techniques, and “how to’s” both in person and through their blogs. However, PLAN will hold a “Play Day” on June 1 at our office for members to come together to share and get questions answered.
2. What if I need help - who can I call?
Since this program is self-directed and is being completed by many staff members throughout the system simultaneously, you are encouraged to work with colleagues along your discovery journey. To find a list of staff participating see The Participants. However, PLAN will host a “Play Day” and you can still send me an email if you are stuck.
3. Is this program open to everyone?
This program is open only to PLAN Library Member Staff. The first 75 participants who complete the entire course will receive a USB flash drive. Those members who complete the program by the deadline will be entered in a drawing for other prizes.
If you are not a PLAN Library Member Staff, you are welcome to follow along. Unfortunately, you are not able to receive any incentives.
4. How long do I have to complete the program?
The program kicks off May 1, 2007. You are expected to work on the exercises setup for each week. You may work ahead if you like as well.
5. How do I track my progress for the program?
Each member that chooses to participate in this program will be required to keep a blog to track his or her progress.
~Please make sure all of your blog posts are clear and contain substance or insights into what you’ve learned. And if you don’t know how to measure “substance”, then your posts should be no less than 100-125 words.~
6. I would like to earn the flash drive but don’t feel comfortable with others reading my blog, can I participate anonymously?
Since you control all the information that you share on your blog, you can choose to use a screen name to identify yourself anonymously. However, in order to receive the flash drive and qualify for other prizes, you will need to identify yourself by sending an emal to me, Alicia. We will not share your identity with anyone outside the PLAN Staff.
